Kuala Lumpur, 12 April 2021. In a milestone event for Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), YAB Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Prime Minister of Malaysia today officiated the launch of TM Cloud and Cybersecurity services for the Government of Malaysia. As the sole Malaysian Cloud Service Provider (CSP) under the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint (MyDIGITAL), TM via its enterprise and public sector business solution arm, TM One will provide a comprehensive range of connectivity, ICT and digital solutions to support Government agencies’ Cloud Transformation Plan.

The launching ceremony was held at TM One Klang Valley Core Data Centre (KVDC) in Cyberjaya. The Prime Minister was accompanied by YB Dato' Sri Mustapa Mohamed, Minister In The Prime Minister's Department (Economy); Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali, Chief Secretary to the Government of Malaysia and Dr. Fadhlullah Suhaimi Abdul Malek, Chairman of Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). The delegation was hosted by Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Mohd Bakke Salleh, Chairman of TM and Imri Mokhtar, Group Chief Executive Officer, TM.

Commenting on the event, Imri said, “TM is indeed very honoured to welcome YAB Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Prime Minister of Malaysia and the rest of the delegates to our TM One’s KVDC, the state-of-the-art data centre. Today’s visit is even more meaningful as YAB PM is launching TM Cloud and Cybersecurity Services for the Government of Malaysia. We are proud to be the only Malaysian-owned CSP, at par with the other global players. We are committed and ready to play a leading role in accelerating the Government’s digital transformation under the MyDIGITAL agenda with our Data Centres and Cloud infrastructure. We understand and acknowledge the need for Government agencies to have full data residency, locality and sovereignty in Malaysia to serve and protect the data privacy of Malaysians while ensuring we have a world-class infrastructure in place. Moreover, TM has the capability to secure and protect the strategic Critical Network & Information Infrastructure (CNII) in Malaysia.”

“TM remains steadfast in our efforts to realise the aspirations of MyDIGITAL based on our three (3) core pillars - focusing on Digital Connectivity, Digital Infrastructure and Digital Talent. This includes building a robust, integrated network and infrastructure under the Jalinan Digital Negara (JENDELA) action plan and raise the digital intelligence and skillset of Malaysians via our Multimedia University (MMU) and the TM Digital Academy. We are well primed to accelerate public sector digital adoption with a comprehensive suite of solutions covering cloud, data centres and cybersecurity, towards a full-fledged Digital Malaysia by 2030 – a more digital society, digital business, digital industry and digital Government,” he added.

The Government, through its Cloud First strategy, has targeted the migration of 80% of public data to this hybrid cloud system by the end of 2022 as a measure to empower public sector cloud computing services. There is a broad range of advantages and efficacy of shifting public sector services into the cloud. Thanks to its ability to handle large volumes of information, cloud services will enable Big Data, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) and other applications to be used to strengthen the delivery of Government services to all Malaysians. Cloud could also enhance the efficiency of data collection and management as well as enable the Government sector to quickly expand new smart services across different agencies at lower implementation costs.

TM Cloud and Cybersecurity Services for the Government of Malaysia provides full cloud capabilities (TM One Cloud α), comprises end-to-end cloud services – embracing Infrastructureas-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), Cloud Professional Services and Managed Cloud Services.

Meanwhile, TM One Cyber Defence Centre (CYDEC) provides a wide range of world-class managed security services, including Global Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI) services, Active Cyber Defense (ACD) and 24/7 Global Cybersecurity Operations Centre (G-CSOC) to protect the Government and public data. This will provide users with added assurance knowing their data is kept secure and in compliance with regulatory requirements.

To ensure a seamless transition to digital, TM will also provide comprehensive Cloud and Cybersecurity Professional Services. For cloud services, this includes Cloud Design planning, Migration services, and Workload Optimisation services. Under cybersecurity, Professional Services cover the complete range of cybersecurity posture assessment, consulting and advisory services to the existing cyber risks and offer the best solution to mitigate those risks.

To further provide support to the MyDIGITAL initiative, TM One’s world-class Uptime Institute Tier III certified KVDC will undergo a capacity expansion by December 2021. To date, all TM One Data Centres are built with the focus on being carrier-neutral facilities with green building design, highly interconnected networks, high availability and security, while ensuring compliance with Malaysia’s data residency laws and industry-specific regulations.

At the same event, YAB Prime Minister and his delegates also witnessed the signing of agreement for TM Centralised Cloud Computing Panel and Managed Service Provider between Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU), TM and Cloud Connect Sdn. Bhd. This strategic partnership appoints Cloud Connect as TM’s managed services provider (MSP) to further facilitate the Government agencies’ cloud adoption.

The Prime Minister also handed over the appointment letter of TM as the Cloud Service Provider (CSP) for the Government of Malaysia to Tan Sri Bakke. The Prime Minister was then brought for a short tour around KVDC premise and its Command Centre to enlighten him and his delegates on how the Data Centre operates and can support the digital transformation of Government agencies.
